Dr. Jennifer Mahan grew up in Northeastern Ohio in a small town called Chardon. She was active in 4-H (raising a grand champion pig) and racing sled dogs. She was the first person East of the Mississippi River to race and finish the Jr. Iditarod sled dog race in Alaska. She was also very active in showing Siberian Huskies at both 4-H and AKC shows. Dr. Mahan attended The Ohio State University for her undergraduate degree and her Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine (graduating in 2009). Her first year out of veterinary school she practiced mixed animal medicine in rural Wisconsin, working on companion animals and dairy cows. The last several years she has been practicing in Northern Kentucky. Dr. Mahan's husband, Anthony Mahan, Esq. is an attorney practicing in both Ohio and Kentucky (www.mahanlaw.com) . While she is not at work Dr. Mahan enjoys scrapbooking, hanging out with her husband, her super friendly black cat, Kuroi, her doberwoman, Kyra, and her newest addition, Watson, a rescued daschund cross from the Stray Animal Adoption Program.
Dr. Mahan is a member of the AVMA (American Veterinary Medical Association), ISDVMA (International Sled Dog Veterinary Medical Association), CVMA (Cincinnati Veterinary Medical Assoication) and the AAFP (American Association of Feline Practitioners.)
Matthew (Vet Assistant)
Matthew grew up on a farm in Jeffersonville, Ohio where he was in frequent contact with a multitude of livestock and companion animals from an early age. He graduated from Ohio Northern University in 2011 with a BFA in Graphic Design and soon after moved to the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky area where he rediscovered his lifelong passion for animal wellbeing. Matthew and his longtime girlfriend Adrienne foster kittens for the Stray Animal Adoption Program. In his free time he enjoys playing guitar, going hiking with his enthusiastic Corgi mix Sage, or lounging around with his cat, Acacia, nose buried in a good book.
Kerri (Vet Assistant)
Kerri was born and raised in Anchorage, Alaska. Her family moved to Cincinnati when she was 16 and she attended Anderson High School for her junior and senior years. She attended the University of Kentucky her first two years of college. After interning at the Alaska Zoo for three months she took a break from school and worked at the Alaska Zoo as a full-time Zookeeper. She is currently attending the University of Cincinnati to finish her degree in Biological Sciences, and hopes to someday have a career working with animals. For fun she likes to spend her time outdoors with family, friends, and her dog Mocha and she loves watching Hockey.
Megan was born and raised in Cincinnati, Ohio. She attended Oak Hills High School and is currently enrolled at Northern Kentucky University where she is majoring in Criminal Justice. Megan has a love for animals and has been working with them for the past two years. In her spare time she likes to spend time with friends and family, complete volunteer work, read books, or cuddle up with her dog and watch the Ohio State game.
Christy grew up in Cincinnati and attended Colerain High School in which she was heavily involved in softball and volleyball. She continued on playing ball into college at Kent State University. For the past 9 years, Christy has worked in a local independent pharmacy, but wanted to satisfy her need to work with animals. In her spare time, she likes to hang out with her English Mastiff Zeus, and play in local softball tournaments. She also enjoys volunteering for the SPCA.
Nikki (Kennel Assistant)
Nikki was born and raised in Fort Mitchell, Kentucky. She attends Beechwood High School and will begin her senior year in the fall. She is the youngest of three children. She has one dog, Uno (pit-boxer mix), 2 cats – Echo (who is deaf) and Chester, and a sugar glider named Pip. Her passions are horseback riding and scuba diving (certified at age 12). She began riding horses at the age of 4. She is on the local IEA team (Interscholastic Equestrian Association) and also competes in horse shows in the area. She plans on attending the College of Charleston in South Carolina in the fall of 2015 and earn a degree in Marine Biology. She is also hoping to ride for their Equestrian Team. For fun she likes to spend all the time she can riding. She also plays soccer and enjoys photography.
